It never fails because each year there is at least one toy that is so popular it can’t be found any store shelves. Right now you might be having visions of the Wii console, the Tickle Me Elmo, and so forth. If your child has one of this year’s Hot Christmas Toys on their list, what should you do?

Start Your Christmas Shopping Early: It is usually easy to tell right from the start which toys are going to be the most sought after during the holidays. Whether you read an online news article or if your child constantly points at the TV during a commercial saying “I want that” you know you have got a hot Christmas toy. If you have the money to spend, head to the store now. It doesn’t matter whether it is the beginning of April or the middle of July because you at least end up with the toy in your hands. Stash it away somewhere in your house until Christmas.

Shop Online: Typically, it is easier to get your hands on the hottest Christmas toys when shopping online, as opposed to shopping locally. For starters, you have thousands of online retailers at your fingertips. On the other hand, you may have a Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and a few other stores to choose from locally. Don’t just go with the stores you are familiar with either; perform a standard internet search with the name of the toy you are looking for to get the best results, including both large and small retailers. Moreover, most retailers allow you to signup for email alerts when your out-of-stock item is available online; check your email first to be the winner!

Shop on eBay.com or Craigslist.org: These are not online retailers, but rather marketplaces for internet users to buy and sell. You will have no problem finding the all of this years hot Christmas toys, but you may have a problem affording the cost. In almost all cases, there sellers aren’t parents, but rather people seeing dollar signs. They did the research to determine which toys will fly off store shelves, stocked up, and did nothing but wait. They wait until parents are in a last-minute rush to get the toy no longer available in stores. Yes, you can get that toy, but don’t be surprised if you end up paying double or even triple the price.

Consider Pushing Back to Another Holiday: Of course you want to get your child their one favorite toy for Christmas, but sometimes doing so is just impossible. If you can, start dropping hints especially if that gift would come from “Santa.” You could say something along the lines of “that is neat, maybe you will get it for your birthday, Easter, or so forth.” You may only want to use this approach as a last resort, but you might be surprised. Those hot Christmas toys will appear on the shelves after Christmas just as quick as they flew off the shelves.

Now that you know a few ways to get your hands on some of this year’s hot Christmas toys, what are you waiting for? Whether your child wants a Zhu Zhu pet or the latest Hasbro FurReal Friends Smores Pony, get a head start. Come Christmas morning, you will be glad you did.
